  1. The Johansens made a dangerous decision to hide Ellen from the Germans because soldiers will be out and they might get spotted by the soldiers and they could kill them. They wouldn’t just kill Ellen for being Jewish, they could punish the whole family for trying to hide her. Also, they aren’t aloud out past eight so the soldiers might get them for that. Plus having some suspicious soldiers coming to see them was bad so if they're out and the soldiers see them they're going down. Last, the reason Ellen could not have her Star of David necklace on is because it’s a Jewish symbol and if the soldiers see that they will know she’s a Jew.

    1. Great thinking! But one question, how will they know she's Jewish if she didn't have the necklace?

  2. The decision of taking Ellen in for a couple nights was very dangerous for the Johnsens and the Rosens. I think this is true because Ellen is Jewish, and the Johnsens are trying to hide her. This could lead to death to the Johnsens and the Rosens because if the Nazis find out that Ellen is Jewish they will sentence them to death, or shoot them right away.

It was important for Ellen to take off her necklace when the soldiers came because if she didn’t, they would know she’s a Jew because that is something the Jews have to wear. If she hadn’t taken off her Star of David necklace, she would either have to hide it or if not she would surely be killed that night.

  3. The Johansens make a dangerous decision to hide Ellen from the Germans. This decision is dangerous because they could get caught. For example, when Papa pulled out the pictures of Lise her hair color could have been blond. If it was, then Ellen could have been taken away. If Papa didn't think to pull out the pictures, the soldiers could have gotten suspicious. This could have also been dangerous because if the soldiers were suspicious then the Johansens could be in trouble too. Also, if Kirsti was awake she could have told the soldiers EVERYTHING. An example of a close call like this is, on page 55 were Kirsti almost told that they were celebrating Ellen’s New Year. However, she didn't tell them that. If the soldiers found out any other information about Ellen, the soldiers could take her.
It was important that Ellen removed her Star of David necklace when the soldiers visited the apartment because if not, then the Germans would know she is Jewish. It was not intentional for this to happen but it had to! If there was any evidence of Ellen being Jewish, then she would be taken away. If that happened the plan to help Ellen would be ruined. In the text, it mentioned that Annemarie imprinted the Star of David into her hand. This shows how worried she was. Hopefully, if more soldiers come then everyone will have a plan!

  4. The Johansens made a dangerous decision to hide Ellen from the Germans because the soldiers could of easily found out. Not only would Ellen get killed if the soldiers found out, but the whole family would be punished for hiding her. It was important that Ellen got her Star of David necklace off because that is a sign that you are Jewish. If Annemarie hadn’t taken it off, they would’ve found out Ellen was Jewish, and the family would’ve gotten a punishment as high as death sentences.

    1. I totally agree they would be in huge trouble if they found out. If the soldiers got enough suspicion they would probably be punished whether they are innocent or not.

  5. The decision that the Johansens are making is a very dangerous decision because, this decision might and or WILL put them into danger. If the nazis find out that Ellen is on of the Rosens they will take Ellen away and I don’t think that Ellen's parents will like that that much! Another reason that this is a dangerous decision is that if they find out then the Johansens could be taken to another concentration camp and maybe to jail for pretending for Ellen to be there daughter. There On why it was important for ellen to take off the star of david because then the Nazis will know that she is not from their family.
